FAQ’s About Melbourne HouseSitters

How many hours do I have to work per day?

Depends on the nature of your role, for cleaners or laundry attendant its about 2-3 hours per day in morning.
For house sitters there are no set hours, we work in a team of 3 house sitters, and need just one of the housesitters to be at home at any time.
You generally work only when customer press the bell to help with check ins, or answer some basic enquires. happens about 5+ times a day.
While housesitting, you are free to do anything you wish, watch a movie, play games, cook a meal, sleep, self study etc.

How is housesitting better than a regular full time job?

Easy work, work where you live, free accommodation, no bills to pay, plenty of free food here, and in many cases still eligible for many social security benefit payment.
This is unlike a full time job where you will have to work hard for long hours, pay a lot more tax to government, spend time and money transport to and from work, pay your own rent, bills and food and unlikely to be eligible for any social security payment.
Your eventual net financial position would be almost the same for either arrangement, except that you probably have to work much harder in a full time job.

Am I able to earn anything while housesitting with you?

My Melbourne housesitters earn around $20-50 per day from our customers via various means, such as laundry services, tips, early/late check in fees, late check out fees, luggage storage fees, visitor fees, room services, meal services etc. you are free to keep 100% of additional services you sell to our guests.

How is housesitting with you different to other housesitting arrangement?

Firstly, our location is very central next to CBD and is ongoing/permanent. Most other housesitting arrangement are far from city, in rural areas, and generally for a limited time only, ie a few weeks.
Housesitting with us involves no taking care of pets, which can require a lot of your time and attention. Our house sitters only need to work when our guest press the bell, which happens only a few times a day.
Here you will be sharing a room with other house sitters or cleaners, and get to interact with many nice guests from all walks of life, unlike other housesitting arrangement where you are generally isolated along in a house caring for their pets full time.

Do I have to clean as a house sitter?

Cleaning may not be a primary duty of Melbourne housesitters here, but we do give preference to melbourne housesitters who are OCD or can clean.
Although we have cleaners that deep clean the house once a day, we need housesitters who knows how to keep the place clean and tidy at all times.
Most of our housesitters take on extra duties such as room resets and laundry as there’s potential to earn more $$ from customers. Feel free to get in touch with Frank to find out more in details.

Can I look for another job while housesitting with you?

Its fine if its a work from home arrangement. If you are looking for jobs outside of premise it kind of defeat the purpose of this housesitting arrangement.
Our cleaners have more flexibility to look for other jobs after completing their daily clean here every morning.
But for housesitters, we prefer people who has not much outside commitment.

Can I apply to house sit with you (Melbourne HouseSitters) as a working holiday holder?

We prefer local residents only, as we look for housesitters who can be with us more than 6 months only.
Unfortunately every working holiday visa holder we have tried, they don’t stay for long (a few weeks only) and tend to disappear without notice.
So short answer is no, we are not keen on foreigners on working holiday visa.

Do you take couples?

No. We operate in a team of about 10 people across 3 sites and we don’t take related people.
Reason being, for every couple we have tried, there is always one person doing way more work while the other one slacks, and we cannot fire one of them without firing both.
Couples also take up more spots in the limited spots available in staff room, so we rather give the opportunity to other individuals.
We are also not providing private rooms for staffs either, so its not suitable for couples.
